When I grow up I want to be like Claudia Heiss

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today I will talk about someone who i admire so much! I s important to consider that Political Science is a new field of study, which like the most of the sciences, involves a bigger number of men than women. In this sense, making one's way into this major means a great effort.  Despite knowing this, there is one person who, from the very first moment, has made me feel that I am capable of anything: Claudia Heiss. She is the professor who leads the major at the university, an extremely intelligent and kind woman. Since the first year she has guided us to be the best, to achieve our goals and to love what we study, and that is why I admire her deeply.  She has contributed mainly through her studies on political conflicts and political theory. This has resulted in multiple academic publications, international recognition and contributions to the Chilean government on conflict regulation in the country. Her most recent publication is her book "Why we need a new Const...

How my major can change the wold

Imagen
Hi everyone! How are you? Today I will talk about how my major can change the world!            T o begin with, my major is Political Science, a discipline of the social sciences that deals, in a very general way, with the study of power relations and how they affect to the installation of political systems. In this context, my field of study can be very useful, because it allows to discover, through research, the roots of the political problems of society.  In this perspective, political science is an indispensable tool for governments and international organizations to become more conscious of the things that need to be fixed and, in this way, make the world a better place. In particular, I have been very dedicated to studying and being a good student, especially because I am interested in being an academic. There are a lot of problems in society, however, what motivates me the most, for sure, is to be able to contribute to create a world witho...

Our first protest

Imagen
Hello everyone, welcome to my new blog :)   T oday we will talk about a picture that means a lot to me, so I will tell you why and how it was taken.  First I want to mention that it means a lot because there I'm with my best friend, who I've missed a lot during the whole pandemic. He is the best person I know, and we share the same interests and aspirations in life. Although we have a lot of pictures together, this specific one means a lot to me because it was taken during our first protest together, in 2019, at the social manifestations. It was a historic event for the country and for us, because today we both study political science and we are both passionate about social mobilizations.  However, behind this photo there is a very good story. He talked to me because he had lied (innocently) to his mother in exchange for going to the protest. He asked me to go with him because he had never been to one and didn't want to go alone. So I painted my best sign and we wal...

Pizza, my reason for existing

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today we´ll talk about food... I talian food is known for its pasta and the dough, that, with the sauce and cheese make a perfect combination. Although I am a fan of pasta, my favorite meal is pizza. It is a round, flat dough that is topped with cheese and toppings to taste, for then baked for a few minutes. Not only is it easy to cook, but it is so versatile and delicious that it is perfect for family meals, parties or even to enjoy it alone (in a movie marathon, for example). It adapts to all tastes and situations, which makes it loved by almost everyone.  In my case, I really like it because it's comfortable to share.  Before the pandemic, I loved going to Papa John's with my friends to talk while enjoying a delicious vegetarian pizza, accompanied by garlic sticks.  My favorite pizza, hands down, is the veggie pizza. Although I am not a vegetarian, I like the taste of the vegetables with the cheese, especially the peppers, mushrooms and olives. However, al...

My favourite piece of technology

Imagen
Hi, welcome to my new blog! Today we´ll talk about technology: M y favorite piece of technology is my smartphone. I consider it to be very versatile and easy to use, plus over time it has evolved to be used for both entertainment and communication. In my case, I mainly use it to view my social networks. I really enjoy being online, sharing memes with my friends and family. I also really like, through Instagram, to share some of the artistic stuff I do, like my drawings and makeup. While I keep up with what's going on around the world, its use is extremely vicious. The smartphone, although it can be an essential tool for studying, is a great factor of deconcentration, because it has a great variety of quick entertainment elements.  It is for this reason that I consider that its use should be extremely limited, since without realizing it, you can spend hours looking at applications instead of doing really important things. What do you think? I´ll be waiting for read your commen...

Why I choose my major

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I want to tell you how I decided to enter my current career.  S ince I was a little girl I loved to draw, that's why my family has encouraged me to exploit that talent. That's how, when I was 12 years old, I decided that I would dedicate myself to art.  However, as I grew older, I became interested in history and politics. That is why, when I graduated from high school, I was quite confused about what I would decide to study. The art was in my mind, but I was interested in social movements and the human rigths. I took a year to think things through, so, I studied and educated myself a lot about the Social Sciences, so I considered studying Law, Political Science or International Studies.  Finally, after knowing my results of the university admission test, I entered to study Political Science at the University of Chile. I really feel very passionate about what I study now, I do not regret the decisions I have made in my life. It is the perfect area fo...

The story of my life

Imagen
Hello, welcome to my new blog!      M y name is Catalina Valdés Blanchemin, I'm from Santiago, Chile and I was born on April 4th, 2001 (so, I'm only 20 years old). First of all, I want to talk a little bit about my family: I live with my parents and my older brother in a middle class house in La Florida. I've always thought that makes us a very regular family, because we fit perfectly into the prototype of four members and a very old dog. Now then, I'll tell you a little bit about my life. I graduated from high school in 2018 and, the next year, I dedicated myself to continuing my education to retake the college entrance exam. During that year I reconnected with the art world and devoted most of my time to drawing and painting.  In addition to getting very close to art, I readed and informed myself a lot about the political stuff around the world , finally deciding that I was going to study Political Science .  In 2020 I entered to the University of Chile to s...
